9 Steps to Getting Fit and Looking Your Best

We’re no Betty Crocker, but our signature FHIX Mix will make your mouth water and have you coming back for seconds... and thirds, and fourths. We’ll be honest, the recipe for a properly prepared, head-to-toe FHIT body requires patience, as the fhixings call for a few more ingredients than your average Central Park jogger or elliptical enthusiast. Yes, High Intensity Training is the base of our mixture, but all of our FHIXers know that it takes more than simply showing up for the workout. Our fabulous instructors and the brain behind this entire concoction will be the first to tell you, half-heartedly going through the motions won’t get you lasting results. So, what does the average body crave in order to come out hot, steamy and totally FHIT?

The basics:
Hard work
Dedication
Willpower
Perseverance
Consistency
Sweat (and maybe some tears)
Commitment
Positivity

The not-so-basic:
Energy

Okay, so you might think that last one is pretty obvious. But, where does this energy come from? Sure, part of it is baked alongside your positivity and dedication, but most of it is actually generated from...FOOD. You can’t continue to gain muscle, burn calories and work harder than the day before if you don’t have energy, aka food. Yes, it does take a lot of the right foods, but even our hard-bodied instructors will admit, sometimes the recipe includes a scoop (or two, or three) of those so-called wrong foods. We asked them for a bit of insight into their favorite places to get food, all kinds, in NYC.

FAVORITE SPOT TO GRAB A HEALTHY DINNER:
Eric: Healthy, hmmm... if i’m going out to eat chances are it’s not going to be healthy, BUT I love Beyoglu.
Amanda: I love to cook, I cook dinner every night... so, my kitchen!
Ben: My apartment.  Ryan and I cook almost every meal.
Daury: Just Salad
Julia: Whole Foods for a quick dinner or Josie's for something nicer
Kari: Atlantic Grill is one of my go to neighborhood places for a healthy dinner.

FAVORITE SPOT FOR “DATE NIGHT”:
Eric: Cooking dinner for someone at my place
Amanda: Dinner with my boyfriend at Cotta Osteria followed by drinks at Prohibition
Ben: Peasant in Nolita.  Ricotta made in house, octopus with chilli peppers, razor clams, polenta, orata - Tuscan cuisine to die for.  Sit in the cellar for a more intimate meal.
Daury: Ridge Hill Mall, Yonkers because they have restaurants and movies.
Julia: L'Artusi in West Village
Kari: Strip House on 12th Street is one of my favorites. I recently had a great time at the bar of Toalache 82 right here in the 'hood.

FAVORITE SPOT FOR POST-WORKOUT MEAL:
Eric: Bare Burger: The Roadhouse with Bison
Amanda: Juice Generation! I love the Joyful Almond and Peanut Butter Split

Amanda: Definitely Levain Bakery...Chocolate Chip Walnut ....no comparison
Ben: Fat Witch Bakery - brownies, brownies, brownies.....
Daury: Malecon Restaurant (Hispanic food)
Julia: Shake Shack!
Kari: I have so many…Shake Shack, Sedutto, Cascabel and Tony's Di Napoli to name a few.

Contrary to popular belief, the instructors and our fearless leader don’t spend ALL their time at The Fhitting Room. It’s possible you might even bump into one of them fueling up! Bon appetite!
