Get to Know Our FHIT Team: Alex

Community • April 19, 2021

Get to know our FHIT Team! First up, Alex. On top of being our Social Media + Content Manager, she’s a New Yorker who loves to stay active and FHIT. Learn about her evolving fitness journey, how she balances different workouts to spice things up, what she loves about Fhitting Room, and more.

What do you do at Fhitting Room?

I am the Social Media + Content Manager here at Fhitting Room. It’s a very exciting, fast-paced role and no 2 days are the same! It’s extremely helpful that I am passionate about working out and curious to better understand all things fitness. Working for a company with the best trainers and HIIT workouts in-person and virtually is a huge plus.

Tell us about your first FHIX!

My first FHIX was a LIVE! Signature FHIT class taught by Simon. When I first saw that the class was 35 minutes I was skeptical as I would typically spend 45-60 minutes at the gym. I was so pleasantly surprised at what an amazing workout it was in such a short period of time. Simon was also super welcoming!

A year ago when you wanted to jumpstart your fitness journey, what were some of your goals?

When I moved to NYC in 2017 after graduating from Boston University, I was excited to cross off all the best restaurants and cocktail bars on my list. I was busy balancing work and a social life and would often opt to brunch over going to the gym. When the world paused 1 year ago I realized I wasn’t feeling my best physically or mentally. All of a sudden I found myself with more free time then ever and thought if not now then when? I remember my sister pushing me to do a virtual workout with her because she didn’t want to do it alone and I had already worked out that morning. I never would have pictured myself doing 2 workouts in 1 day and felt so accomplished. I made a commitment to work out regularly since I had the extra time, nowhere to go and no commute. I wanted to feel better, healthier, and fit back into my old clothes. I had also just started running and wanted to be able to enjoy doing it (at the time I thought I would never be a runner since I couldn’t run more than 3-4 miles at best).

What changes have you seen in yourself over the past year?

My stress and anxiety have gone down a significant amount which I attribute to building a routine starting my mornings with a workout. Exercise = endorphins. I have gotten into running in the past year which is an amazing way to clear my mind. I have also lost around 15 lbs since I started taking my fitness seriously and feel way stronger. I don’t pay attention to the number on the scale as much considering I am trying to incorporate more strength work but fitting into my old clothes was a big perk.

How do you vary your workouts?

I cancelled my gym membership at the start of the pandemic and panicked since I lived in a tiny NYC apartment and wasn’t familiar with any good virtual workouts that would keep me motivated. I ended up spending months in Miami quarantining with my family and began to experiment with virtual workouts. I also took up running which I originally hated but it gave me an excuse to go outside and do something. I now workout pretty much every day switching between running and Fhitting Room classes. I trained myself to enjoy running and the feeling of accomplishment you feel when you hit new goals. I challenged myself to run a little further every time until FINALLY I ran my first-ever half marathon distance run. Fhitting Room adds that strength component I was always missing because I never had the knowledge to do those types of exercises on my own. I never have to miss a workout as I can always squeeze in 35 minutes for a class and can take LIVE! classes anywhere.

What do you love about Fhitting Room workouts?

Where do I begin? I was instantly drawn to how efficient yet challenging they were. Time was always a big problem for me and now I could get an amazing workout in 35-45 minutes. I am the type of person that isn’t looking for an easy workout but a challenging (yet fun) workout and Fhitting Room gives you just that. The LIVE! workouts were a major game changer as I could literally roll out of bed, throw on workout clothes and get an in-studio experience straight from my living room. I had never touched a kettlebell and realized how badass they make you feel! The workout is always different, and it’s the best feeling when the FHITpros give me a shoutout.

What do you love about working at Fhitting Room?

The team is so amazing! Everyone is so welcoming and kind and truly cares about one another,
and being surrounded by all things fitness only motivates me further. I also love that we’re a fitness brand that can talk about working out + eating cookies or muscles + margaritas because balance and living life is necessary!

What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their fitness journey?

My advice is stay consistent and make a routine. Just because you’re not a pro right away doesn’t mean you should give up. I went from hating running to craving it and never touching a kettlebell to doing dead cleans. Also, patience! Progress isn’t immediate but keep going and never forget how good you feel after. Finding ways to move your body for example taking the stairs instead of the elevator or walking instead of the subway is also a great way to incorporate movement.

Fave workout gear?

A cute workout outfit makes every workout more fun! You can catch me in a matching set from either FableticsLululemon or Target (don’t sleep on this one) and my Nike Superreps or Hokas if I am running.

Fave post-workout snack?

I love Quest Protein Bars, hummus and crackers, or avocado on rice cakes with everything but the bagel seasoning.
