From chocolate hearts to rose bouquets, Valentine's Day has traditions rooted in romance. Whether you celebrate it or not, the global day of love has become more than just exchanging cards and dinner reservations between couples. From informal holidays like Galentine's Day to Singles Awareness Day, people have created their own traditions of getting together with friends or remaining happily unattached.
We asked our FHITfam to give us their hot takes about Valentine's Day. Below are their answers to the question: Love it or hate it?
Elizabeth A., FHITbiz
I’m indifferent. I would rather get flowers or candy on like… July 27th, which means nothing, than all of the hype around Valentine’s Day.
Burpees are forever.
I'm neutral about it... I don't hate it. I love going out to eat but Valentines dinners are just overpriced.
There shouldn’t be one day where you’re buying something nice or telling someone you love that you love them. It should just be all the time!
I like the candy, only the good kind.
I love it. However, I’m a firm believer that you don’t need just one day to show your love. You should continuously show love, and love hard, on a day-to-day basis. It’s nice to have a day dedicated to [that]. You go on a nice, cute, little date and spend a little extra time to focus on those things. Valentine’s Day should be every day if you really love someone.
I like it… because people are walking around the city and they seem a little happier that day. Even if you don’t have a significant other to celebrate, you can celebrate with your friends, or family, or your FHITfam.
Don't care. If you want to be romantic you can be romantic any other time of year.
I hate it. I think it's very contrived. I don't think there should be a day where you're forced to express love and affection for your significant other, it should be something that happens all the time!
I have a girlfriend now, so I love it!
Hate it. I'm in a relationship but I still hate it. I never do anything on Valentine's Day. I just let the day pass because it is just another day. It's also my best friend's birthday, that's something worth celebrating.
Believe it or not, I’m 27 years old and have only had one Valentine my entire life. So… I don’t have a lot of opinions on Valentine’s Day since it’s usually not very relevant for me! I think it’s great to make a gesture if you do have someone.
If you're with a significant other you have to love it.
I love Valentine’s Day. I have a significant other, my fiancé, but we have actually never spent Valentine’s Day together because my girlfriends and I have a longstanding Galentine’s tradition. It’s actually one of our wildest nights of the year. We go out together, live life, and enjoy each other’s company.
