As we gear up for Tokyo 2021, we wanted to know who our FHITfam have been cheering on throughout the years. Check out some answers from our gold-medal FHITpros:
Garen: I LOVE Michael Phelps - especially because he has been such a champion for mental health after his Olympic career - plus he went to THE University of Michigan, like me.
Eric: Allyson Felix, Rio 2016!
Pierre: Mine would have to be Usain Bolt, the Jamaican Sprinter from a couple of years ago. Don’t know if we will ever see someone that tall ever move that fast again.
Mel: My favorite Olympians were Dominique Moceanu who won the gold for gymnastics in 1996, Tara Lipinski who won the gold for figure skating in 1998, and Michelle Kwan who won silver the same year behind Tara. I loved them all so much when I was younger, I remember buying books about them at my school book fair. I looked up to them because they were all very young females at the time and made me feel like I really could do anything!
BLD: Eliud Kipchoge, marathon world record holder. I also like Matthew Centrowitz, who’s a runner in this year’s Olympics.
Riley: It has to be Simone Biles because despite already being the greatest of all time, she continues to challenge herself and push the whole game to new limits. I also love that she seems to be as exceptional of a teammate as she is an athlete.
Carlos: I would say Michael Phelps because of the work he’s done as a mental health advocate.
