Exercising During the Workday Can Seriously Improve Your Week

We all know exercise helps you look better, feel better, and live a longer, happier life… but how does the time of day you workout affect your routine?

According to BBC, taking a break during the workday to exercise can have benefits beyond just the obvious. Making time to break away from your desk and fit in a sweat session can:

Make you more productive.  Taking time away from your flooded inbox and making time for yourself in the middle of the day can have a huge impact on your work performance. Working out during the workday can give you a sense of accomplishment and a serious confidence boost that will last the remainder of the day. What better way to stay on top of your to-do list than if you’re already on top of the world?

Relieve stress and improve mental health.  This isn’t news, but working out releases endorphins, those little hormones the brain secretes to make you happy and calm. But wait, there’s more! Working out is one of the best ways to release stress and tension, too. Why wouldn’t you want to step away from the office to do something that will melt away that workday stress?

Keep you healthy, leading to fewer sick days.  Ok, this isn’t news either, but working out is one of the best ways to improve your overall health and wellness. It might seem like an obvious formula, but a boost in employees’ health yields fewer sick days taken overall. Makes sense, right? Taking care of yourself should always come before your workload, and taking an hour out of your workday to keep your body working like the well-oiled machine it is will benefit your health and your wealth.

We get it. We’re all human, and taking an hour in the middle of a day full of meetings and conference calls isn’t always feasible. That’s ok! If you have a particularly demanding job that makes the office a difficult place to escape, try bringing in socks and sneakers to leave at your desk, and take quick 15-minute breaks a few times a day to go for a brisk walk outside. Any movement you can fit in your day is always better than no movement at all!
