21 Questions with Fhitting Room Trainer Ben


1. First FHIX experience?
My first FHIX experience happened before Fhitting Room had even opened. I took a group exercise class that Eric was instructing and I knew right away that this workout was for me.


2. Who is your FHITspiration?
My father. He’s recovering from knee replacement surgery and is killing it daily with his strength and determination.

3. Celebrity doppledanger?
Brad Pitt and Matt Damon


4. Favorite guilty pleasure?
Brownies in all forms and watching EVERYTHING on the Food Network.

5. What is it about group fitness?
The sense of community.  I think the idea of “group mind” goes really far in group fitness; you can accomplish anything when you have a whole room sweating it out beside you.

6. Post workout snack?
Almond butter and an apple.


7. What did you want to be when you were growing up?
An author, a Disney animator, a pop star, a nature conservationist saving Great Pandas, and one of the von Trapp children.


8. Perfect Sunday afternoon activity?
Reading the Sunday New York Times and the New Yorker with tea and a muffin or walking around the Whitney (my favorite museum in the city) before it relocates downtown.

9. Best advice you ever received?
Look at the big picture.  Think about the long term.  Baby steps with a goal in mind.  That’s how you win.

12. What is always in your fridge?
Kale and tahini.

13. Your biggest accomplishment?
Having the world premiere of my work, Hammock, commissioned and presented by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.


14. Your favorite book?
“The World According to Garp” by John Irving.  It’s change your life good.


15. Best vacation you have ever taken?
Traveling around Japan.  Three weeks meeting the most beautiful, warm, and kind people in the entire world.

16. Favorite athlete?
David Hallberg of American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet.  If you ever want to watch an athlete at the top of his game, find out when David Hallberg is performing at Lincoln Center and marvel at his strength and control.

17. What is your favorite movie?
Young Adult, a film I will defend and debate for hours with anyone willing to go there.  I think it’s the most underappreciated, misunderstood masterpiece of the last 10 years.

18. Who you would love to meet and have dinner with?
Rupaul and Kermit the Frog.  It would be the most enlightening meal of my life.

19. Favorite restaurant in the city?
Yuka Japanese Restaurant in the Upper East Side.  It’s no frills sushi, but utter perfection in my book.

21. Favorite type of food?
Homemade food.  The best food is made at home with loved ones.
