Cottage cheese packs a powerful punch. Low in carbohydrates and high in protein, this snack is definitely favored by those who live a FHIT lifestyle. A half cup serving of lowfat cottage cheese contains about 80 calories, 1 gram of fat, 3 grams of carbohydrates, and 14 grams of protein. if available purchase the low sodium option.

An article by The Huffington Post slices up eight reasons why “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” This superfruit contains a component called ursolic acid which boosts calorie burn and increases muscle and brown fat- the fat that burns calories.

Yes, the crisp and refreshing taste of an apple is a treat in itself,  but there is a way to kick it up a notch. First cut the apple into small slices and place in a sprayed microwavable-safe glass bowl. Then sprinkle cinnamon and sugar evenly over the apple slices. Depending on the microwave set the timer 2-3 minutes. The natural juices from the apple will create a sweet sauce that makes you wonder why you ever wanted that tub of ice cream.

Many people will agree that graham crackers are not ideal for a clean diet, but this simple and light graham cracker sandwich stands strong next to any calorie laden dessert. (Caution, they can be addictive so be conscious of serving sizes)

First start by taking a box of graham crackers and break them into sections. Then take a slightly thawed container of cool whip, spoon it onto a ½ or ¼ cracker, and place another cracker on top to make a sandwich. Continue doing this until you run out of cool whip. Lastly, place sandwiches in the freezer for at least 40 minutes. Your taste buds are in for a treat!
